The Next Layer Podcast™: an interview with Dr. Nekessa Remy on taking ownership of your health, the powerful muscle of the soul + the foundation of your core

“…there is a lot of undoing that has to happen…

why do we – as women – accept living with pain?” {Dr. Remy}

Dr. Nekessa S. Remy is the owner of Mississauga’s The Chiropractic Office, a comprehensive injury management clinic focused on sports related injuries and women’s health issues. She also runs a practice in downtown Toronto, at Integra Health Centre where she works amongst other leaders in the health care field.

As a licensed Chiropractor and Medical Acupuncturist, Dr. Nekessa Remy has developed an approach to injury management that is based on current research and measurable patient outcomes.

My own journey into holistic wellness began in my late twenties when I found myself in the hospital for a week with an inexplicable {painful!} growth in my body. At the time, I was given a mixed {inaccurate!} diagnosis + was sent home with no prescription for – or understanding of – what had happened to me. I was treated so poorly that I vowed never to set foot in a hospital again. Alas, a year later I found myself in the hospital again, same problem, different doctor… thankfully, he took a genuine interest in my health + advised that my physical body would be fine, but my whole life would have to change in order to save it. He was right. It was the most challenging + painful time in my life but it was the beginning of the healthy + happy life I live now. I have been a student + teacher of that wisdom ever since.

Having a doctor that understood the connection between my physical body + my emotional well-being saved my life, which is why it brings me such joy to introduce you to Dr. Nekessa Remy in this episode of The Next Layer Podcast™.

Together we discuss what it really means to live a pain-free life + why taking ownership of our health is so important for the wellness of our mind, body + heart. We explore her journey as a wellness practitioner + how the advice she would give her younger self is the counsel she wants her patients to follow now. Lastly, we cover the often neglected – but all too important – muscle of the soul {the psoas} + the pelvic floor.

For women, so much of what we experience on a physical level can be tied to what we’re experiencing on an emotional level + I hope this conversation gives you some insight into the importance of that connection + how it might just change your life too.

love,
alicia.
